As so-called "soft skills" have come to complement the other category of competencies-i.e. the technical ones, considered traditional-in recent years, they also have become essential for professional performance amidst the rapid evolution of the labour market. This paper below examines the literature about soft /transversal skills, individual and organizational performances, and focuses on their impact in the present professional environment. In context, a critical analysis will be here developed on several conceptual and empirical studies in domains of economics, management and psychology, as well as on some institutional contributions here found relevant. It will be searching for mechanisms proper to soft skills influencing the professional performing and success. The literature adds that changes on the labour market, here including digitization, do push themselves all influences that belong to the soft skills around.
